Cody Duncan Lofoten Islands

Hey! I’m Cody, the photographer and author behind Distant North. Originally from (sunny) California, I have lived full time on the Lofoten Islands in Norway since 2016 working as a photographer, guide, and guidebook author. Since my first visit to Sweden and Norway in the summer of 2001, northern Scandinavia, and Lofoten in particular, has always been an interest of mine for photography and hiking. This website currently focuses on the long distance hikes in northern Sweden.

I do not necessarily consider myself a thru-hiker. My primary focus is always on photography. It just sometimes happens that I end up on a long walk through the mountains, and thus the content you see here on Distant North. And carrying camera gear means I will always have a heavy backpack! Overall, my main focus remains photographing the mountains in my backyard of Lofoten.

My other websites include:

68north.com: All about hiking and photography on Lofoten, and the primary website for my photography workshops and ebook publishing.

codyduncan.com: My original photography website and travel blog going back to 2005, and where I first started writing about hiking in northern Scandinavia after my first visit to the Kungdleden trail in September 2009.
